James Childs Architects has successfully completed commissions ranging in scale from a custom birdhouse to a new apartment community consisting of forty-eight separate buildings on a thirty-five acre site. In each case, the project was a direct reflection of the client who proposed it. We see ourselves as being translators, form givers and, above all, team players.

    CHRIS WILSON PAVILION

James Childs Architects collaborated with consulting engineer Yerges Acoustics to create a building geometry designed to naturally amplify the performances staged in this band shell. The site carefully minimized the number of mature hardwood trees which were displaced by the new structure. Brick wall and synthetic clay tile roof materials were selected to closely match those of an historical picnic pavilion located nearby in Potawatomi Park. Now completed, the band shell serves as the venue for a popular outdoor summer concert series.

The new 55,000-square foot facility was programmed to share the downtown campus of the Northern Indiana Center for History. A soaring, sky-lit lobby atrium space features a cafe and showcase vehicles; one of which is displayed in midair on an industrial crane.
